A Study in Revelation The Wedding And The Lord's Coming
In the last chapter to this study, Babylon, the great harlot is destroyed. Earth dwellers mourned and all the heavenly hosts rejoiced. And in this chapter, the wedding commences just before Jesus prepares for battle at Armageddon.
The scene continues where a voice from the throne praises God and all His servants an all who serve Him. And another voice as of a great multitude gives praise to God because He reigns. They rejoice because the marriage of the Lamb comes and the bride has made herself ready.
Days before his death Jesus instructed His disciples to be ready for His coming. It is at this point which is after the Great Tribulation, the bride makes herself ready to meet the Lord.
At this time when the bride has made herself ready, she was granted to be arrayed in fine clean and white linen which is the righteousness of saints. It is through this time of Great Tribulation, the bride will be tried and purified (made clean and white). And those who are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb are blessed.
In John's vision, he fell down and worshiped the angel. The angel responded that he is a fellow servant with John and the brethren who have the testimony of Jesus. John was not to worship the angel but only God because the testimony of Jesus is the spirit if prophecy. This verse is very clear. Only God is to be worshiped and Him alone1. And in other scripture, Jesus was also worshiped. He was worshiped by Thomas after His resurrection who proclaimed him "My Lord and My God."2
John sees heaven open and saw Jesus riding on a white horse with eyes as flames of fire4 and many crowns on his head. He is called faithful and true and the Word of God. And He had a had a name written that no man new and wore a robe dipped in blood. and Jesus is coming in righteousness to judge and make war.
And following Jesus were the armies of heaven on white horses clothed in fine clean white linen.
And out of Jesus' mouth is a sharp sword which He should smite the nations to rule them with a rod of Iron.5 and He will tread the winepress6 of the fierceness and wrath of God. And KING OF KING AND LORD OF LORDS was written on his robe and His thigh.
As John saw an angel standing in the sun, the angel cried out loudly to all the fowls7 that fly in the middle of the sky to gather together unto the supper of God that they may eat the flesh of kings, captains and mighty men, the flesh of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all men who are free and slave, small and great.
And John saw the beast and all the kings of the earth and their armies gathered to make war against Jesus and against His army. It is at this time they are gathered for battle at Armageddon which lines up with the sixth bowl:
And at this battle, the beast was taken along with the false prophet who worked deceiving miracles to cause those to take the mark of the beast. And both of these were thrown alive into the of fire which burns with fire and brimstone.
And the remnant who fought along with the Anti-christ and the false prophet were slain with the sword of Jesus. And all the fowls filled with their flesh.
In this book of Revelation which was written to the seven churches, Chapter 19 is the only time where it is written where Jesus returns. There is nowhere else where Jesus is explicitly seen coming. It is after the Tribulation when He comes in Flaming Fire.8 And referring back to key verses in Isaiah 66 and 2 Thessalonians Chapter1, this causes serious damage to pre or mid-trib views.
And it certainly raises serious doubt on the pre-wrath position. They view a rapture at the Sixth Seal., which I agree. However they claim the Great Tribulation is cut short as much as in half while the remaining 70th week is the period of God's wrath. Therefore, they view the 7th seal to the time of the Lord's Coming in Chapter 19 is the time of God's wrath while the church is either gone or suspended in air.
